Old World Furniture - French, Italian & Spanish Style

Rustic old world furniture has a timeless quality. They are pieces that add warmth to a room and are instant family heirlooms. There are many styles but my 3 favorite are French, Italian and Spanish. These 3 have similarities but are distinctly different.
FRENCH: When I think of French old world, a combination of French Country and provincial comes to mind. Carved rounded corners, mixing a painted base with solid wood top and often extra details with the hardware and trim. The finish is very important to note: Often layered and weathered.

ITALIAN: These pieces will be more refined but still similar to the French finish. Less chunky and more elegant. Painted and stained woods are used but a more delicate finished product.

SPANISH: Denoted by natural woods and often not as refined. Many of these pieces will have hand-forged iron accents or nail heads showing. These will feel more rustic and chunkier in appearance.
All of these old world styles can be easily mixed into the same home and will compliment each other. The most impressive rooms are those with furniture and accessories blended from varied lines. Enjoy designing your space, but most of all, love where your design takes you!
